Rip Rap Case History

A Midwestern aggregate producer successfully uses the Surestrike hammer to produce rip rap for US Army Corps of Engineers projects.

In this application, the model 2000 hammer is mounted to a CAT 966 loader. The shot rock is reduced to the proper size using the Surestrike hammer. Because of the sharp and quick blows delivered by the Surestrike, the limestone rock is broken into cubical, good quality pieces. Prior to using the Surestrike hammer, this producer tried drop balls and hydraulic hammers. The drop balls were slow and produced too many fines because the rock was hit too hard and created excessive fines or waste material. The hydraulic hammer would chip away at the rock, producing too many unwanted and unusable fines.
