    Marble Quarry Case History

A contractor in the south eastern US is using a Surestrike model 2100 to break oversize marble rock.

In this application, the owner has a contract to blast, dig and produce primary crusher run material for the quarry owner. The marble is on average, 6’ to 8’ in diameter and larger, with a compressive strength in the 30,000 PSI range. The contractor must break it to 48” minus to fit into the 48 x 60 primary crusher. Prior to using the model 2100, another contractor was using a 10,000# class hydraulic hammer. The hydraulic hammer broke the marble but not as easy or as fast as the Surestrike. Also, maintenance on the hydraulic hammer was excessive.

The model 2100 is mounted to a CAT 980F with a hydraulic quick attach coupler. The 6’ – 8’ oversize is being broken to crusher run size in 2-3 blows with production in excess of 100 TPH. Mounting to an excavator would increase the production by an estimated 25- 50%.
